Please include your name, address and phone number, and we will be happy to send it right out.

Camp Week 1: June 25th   “The Art Experience”- Students will experience a multitude of ways to make art! This Camp will place an emphasis on methods of working with art materials. For example, students will be working with clay… but not in the traditional sense (modeling/sculpting). Instead, they will use clay as line, in thin tubular long shapes, laying side by side to create their subject… add paint… and press their image to cloth or paper. They will experience an alternate process to achieve art expression. This kind of experience expands their thinking, and encourages them to be open to new possibilities to make connections with “problem solving”, as it impacts daily life. Other projects include, “Oil & water don’t-mix… can be beautiful”, “Foil Repousse”, “Texture collage”, “Drawing with Sunlight”… and more!

Camp Week 2: July 9th  “Art Express”  - Hop aboard! This camp takes the students on an artistic journey… to different parts of the world…in terms of art. We will take a look at today & yesterday’s art inspired by nature and culture. Examining them will bring understanding of connections and influences we each offer to one another. An example is, showing how Picasso’s art took a dramatic change as a result of viewing the African mask exhibition in Paris. It opened his mind and altered his art making process, which in turn changed the art world forever. In this camp it is our hope, by taking the “Art Express” trips, students will be inspired, learn about the artwork of others for the sake of understanding and growth. This is not to incorporate techniques/ subject matter or materials but to simply become aware! Other projects than the African masks include, “Aboriginal Art”, Asian perspective ”Story Scrolls”, “Amate Bark Painting”, “Native American Tapestry” and more!

Camp Week 3: July 23rdMixed Media” – “Try it you’ll, like it!”… is our hope!! The more young art students are shown how to work with art materials, their possibilities and associated techniques… the greater their capacity to express themselves. Each art project during this camp will combine varied media and processes. By showing these unusual combinations, students become more open when creating their art,  (thinking out-side- the-box). An example of one project is an acrylic painting on canvas… mixed-media style. With the paint, students will be encouraged to incorporate sand, tissue paper, raffia, cloth/burlap, cork, foil or selections from our “odds & ends box”. We will emphasize decision-making, as well as aesthetics, in an encouraging garden decoration, “watercolor resist” painting, animal drawings, “Foil Antiquing” and more.

Camp Week 4: July 30th  “Art Smart”- This camp will be loaded with information and fun. It will feature methods of art making, inspiration from the Masters of Art, and a clear demonstration of techniques. An example of one project is, ways artists show perspective (showing how art can look more realistic, creating the feeling of depth). Students will be shown ways to achieve it, (overlapping, diminishing their objects, location on the page, and one-point perspective.) For clarity, examples will be shown in varied Masters’ works of art. Other points of discussion will address shading, proportion, use of line, composition, balance, color mixing, and having fun creating their own masterpieces! Projects will include, creating an art journal, new art terms poster, canvas art, Monet silk scarf, Cubistic self-portrait, and more!

Camp Week 5: August 20th “Encompassing Art” – The world of art is HUGH!! It’s wherever we go, whatever we do, whatever we see! It is a part of everyone’s life. This camp discusses how and why. An example will be to study color and how it influences us (warm/cool)… even science proves its effects on us!  Drawing and painting each day, along with our guest art teachers, bring unique art projects that demonstrate our need to create. Projects include, a textile wall hanging, self-portrait, creative family photo-montage, “I dream of art pillowcase (included), a family-keep-sake treasure box (included), a 3-D express-yourself-collage and more!
